Most people believe that the police are going to keep them safe and they have no need to protect themselves. This is not the cause. The police are great help. But think about it like this. How often do they come up to someone and warn them they are about to be robbed. Not a whole lot. They are the ones that you call after the fact, once you have become a victim.
